PROGRAMME NOTE
Quietly beginning with resonant harmonics, the music soon turns into a frantic succession of quasi-improvisatory folkish melodies. Vibrant chords interject and provide momentary rhythmic stability. An intense climax ensues, before the music returns to strange, hushed gestures and melodic fragments. This tranquil soundworld is provoked by an echo of what was before. This piece was originally written to accompany two dancers – to a choreography by Vilma Tihilä – performing under Luke Jerram’s luminous, levitating installation, Museum of the Moon, at Bloomsbury Festival 2019 in London. Kajo in Finnish means ‘glow’ or ‘shimmer’.
