PROGRAMME NOTE
The work takes its title from a very short poem by my mother, Saija Järventausta, which is set to music in the third movement and partially in the fourth. This poem, about a pearl, hidden, lost in the depths of the ocean, evokes stillness, beauty, perhaps even sadness, but also comfort. The first two movements are wordless, as if music heard from underwater – music that travels from the ocean floor to the surface. All movements are characterised by my love for rich, sonorous choral sound worlds.
